A slow computer issue is not anything that you need to agree to and resign yourself to. The truth is that the answer to the issue of a slow running computer is easy to find and easy to apply. Many of the anwers can be implemented for free by yourself if you are ready invest a little of your time or they can be instituted fairly inexpensively by a qualified technician.

A little disclaimer about this article for those of you who are computer science majors. I am publishing this article for the average computer user like my Dad who not only does not know about the internal workings of computers but also quite frankly does not want to know. I am about to greatly oversimplify a lot of the concepts so that my Dad can have a approximate outline of what is happening and understand the ideas. So please do not flame me for misstating the precise ratios used for a flux capacitor. That being said let’s move on.

There are eight chief sections where the software on your computer is liable of corruption or deterioration over time. The causes for risk in each spot are different and the answers are assorted as well. The subject of our discussion today is going to be the second most prolific and visible area of worry and that is temporary file buildup. If you want to find the remedies to all eight issues, visit my website where you will find lots of useful information.

Your system relies heavily on temporary files and the existence of these files is normal. These files store bits of information that the computer has previously used and now has kept in a convenient file for speedy access. As the name of the subject states though, these files are intended to be transitory in nature. They are designed for your pc to use while you are actively using the program that made them and they are designed to be used specifically for the session in which they were created. What that all means is simpler to comprehend by way of an example. The most common type of temporary file is one that is created when you use the internet so we will talk about that.

When you go online the web pages you go to will ask your system for a lot of information that it needs in order to be able to communicate back and forth effectively. Your computer will create a file with this data in it. Then each time you go to a different web page the pc simply hands the new server a file that holds answers to all the questions thereby making your surfing faster. This system is great, it makes using your computer more fun because things happen more quickly.

The trouble sets in when your computer does not get rid of the files after you log off the internet. A flaw in the default setup of most browsers is that they are not set to remove temporary files when you disconnect. The pc will not need that file again because so many settings could have changed on your system, so a fresh file is created each and every time you start a new browser session. Obviously over the course of time you are left with a bunch of old files that will never be used again and can lead to a number of problems including file fragmentation (a subject for another day).

The example I just used is only one of the sources of temporary files, there are quite a few others and many of them generate hundreds if not thousands of temp files every day. The point being that this is a significant problem. The good news is it is a simple problem to correct, truth be told it is likely the simplest situation to correct and I advise becoming familiar with the process for correcting this trouble area as it could give you courage to correct some of the other more complicated topics.

There is a free utility named Ccleaner that I use for correcting this problem. I am not affiliated with the product; I simply use it and recommend it to my customers. And yes even to my Dad. The program is free and it is one of the simplest and easiest to use programs on the market today. Just download it, install it, and when it starts up you will be nearly done using it. Before you do anything else though, shut down any internet browsers you have running. After you have closed the running web browsers look towards the bottom of the program, there will be two buttons. Click on the one that is labeled ‘Analyze’, this will scan your computer for temporary and junk files. Once the scan is done, click on the button that is labeled ‘Run Cleaner’, this will delete all the junk and temp files that it has found. It is as simple as that.

Now as I remarked in the beginning of this article there are eight areas of concern and we have just talked about one of them. You will see some improvement in your pc’s performance but to get the most benefit you really need to take a look atof the eight areas. I will be offering suggestions on all the different areas on a website about windows boot time problems.
